Whew! I cannot help but express my glee that 2020 is over. It was not a year for the faint of heart. A great deal of unrest came at us from all directions. Just when you calmed your emotions surrounding one insufferable event, another catastrophic incident occurred. We entered 2020 with high hopes – that it would be a year of positive change in politics, family and everyday life. The first two months of 2020, we were achieving those things. Everyone was content.
Then COVID-19 hit our nation hard in March with a jolt that has forever changed our lives. More 15.5 million people are infected, and deaths are predicted to reach a half million before spring. The problem is that the virus continues to rage because some of us are just plain stubborn. Wear your mask, stay six feet apart as you practice social distancing, and wash your hands – these have been constant messages that we all must adhere to in order to curb the spread and lower deaths in our community.
The pandemic has truly impacted us. Businesses in our community are closing. Unemployment is rising, and our federal government is at the highest level of chaos we have ever witnessed in modern time. We are praying for calmer times hoping President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris will be able to restore civility. Disinformation has caused confusion among our populace and it is creating a sense of panic and fear.
As we enter 2021, I genuinely think we have the fortitude and perseverance to turn things around working as a community to make sure we continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines to assist our fellow neighbors in our hours of need. I believe in us! During the history of our country, we have faced many odds and felt the brink of dissolving and withering away. I believe in our resolve as a country, state and community that we will overcome this pandemic and move forward to a positive and bright 2021. I will see you on the other side of the mountain.
Stay Safe!
