I am a little stressed trying to see if everything will work out in my life. I talked to a friend and she suggested meditating. This sparked an idea for this column, tips for mindfulness and meditation.
I like this definition of “meditation” from Yogapedia. Meditation is defined as the process of quieting the mind in order to spend time in thought for relaxation or religious or spiritual purposes.”
In essence, meditating allows us to pause our thoughts and focus on being present in the moment. There are many different benefits to meditation. They include:
- Cultivating our ability to focus
- Improving our ability to connect with ourselves and others
- Lowering stress levels
- Getting rid of brain chatter
I would love to see the benefit of meditating in my life. I would like to stay present in the moment when I’m speaking with people and not wander. And I would like to focus on the present instead of thinking about what I will say next. I can definitely improve in this area. .
I would love to use meditation to reduce stress and keep my mind from always being “on.” I would love to exude my full self because I have learned to tap into my breathing and connect with myself. What would you do if you could unlock the powers of meditation?
In essence, meditating allows us to pause our thoughts and focus on being present in the moment. There are many different benefits to meditation. They include:
- Sit still for a few minutes and connect with your breath. Feel yourself breathing in and out.
- Focus on breathing. Tune into the inhale and exhale. Pay attention to how the process goes for you. Do you feel the breath from your nose, or sense it in your belly as it moves up and down.
- Breathe for a few minutes and tune into your body. Allow yourself to be enveloped and focus on only the breathing.
This is an exercise that we can use to become centered within ourselves and therefore, have more focus and less stress in our daily lives. I can use this to my benefit. I hope you can use it to yours, too.
Here Are A Few Reasons Why People Don’t Want To Meditate
You might have different reasons why meditation is not for you. It is easy to put your time into something that you believe is more important. These reasons are:
- It’s boring. Yes, maybe sitting for minutes at a time doing nothing seems boring. But it is actually an exercise in being present. So, there is still action involved, just in a more subtle way.
- You do not have time. Meditation does require some time, a small investment of your time. Therefore, it makes sense that a person does not want to waste something so precious to them. However, because meditation can bring more focus to your day and fulfillment in your time, I think that the exercise is worth the try.
- Your brain never stops buzzing. It is strange how easy it is to think something always. With meditation, the goal will be to quiet the thoughts and exist where you are in the moment. It will not matter if you cannot control your thoughts, just that you put in the effort to focus on your breathing.
Of course, there might be another reason. Before tossing the thought of trying meditation asude, why not consider the benefits.
An App for Meditation
Calm is a top app for sleep and reducing stress. The same friend suggested it, so I will try it. It also includes videos for mindful movement, as well as music. Calm offers more than 100 guided meditations for beginners, all the way to advanced practitioners of meditation.
In short, meditation could be something to bring the day-to-day into focus. I am going to try it. I think you should consider trying it, too.
