The recent terrorist attack on the Mosque in New Zealand, once again displayed the continued examples of hate in our world. From Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Orlando, Charlottesville, France and now New Zealand, the constant fear of violence is forcing people to ask themselves, “Are we going backwards to the 60s when there was civil unrest in our country. It is said that history tends to repeat itself. Given what we have experienced the past few years, I certainly would agree. We are seeing the embers of hate sparking throughout the world, even in our communities and I hate it.
The racial tensions in America are starting to climb. Hate crimes have dramatically risen. Different ethnic groups are seeing hate impact their communities. The constant hate rants on social media perpetuate discord and misinformation to keep the constant flow of anger among each other.
Why do different ethnic communities hate on each other. Is it about power and control? Is it envy? Is it insecurity? I don’t have an answer. I do know that if we truly are going to move past this unnecessary hatred for each other, we need to start understanding each other and truly emphasize each other’s beliefs. We must acknowledge that hate will not only consume the people who will be injured or murdered, but the environment will regenerate the cycle of hate for our children and their children.
