In this month’s issue of ColorsVA magazine, we talk about the work young adults are doing to influence positive change throughout the Roanoke Valley. There are bad myths regarding the traits of millennials, that they are lazy, uncaring, selfish and overbearing. However, we see in this issue that our young people do care about the future of our community. They see the woes and issues of their predecessors as matters that eventually will fall into their hands. These young adults have decided that they cannot wait for the Baby Boomers and the Generation Xers to map the future for them, but rather they need to take the responsibility to shape and mold the world.
We feature several young leaders who believe that public service is an important fabric to improving life for all in the communities we live. The different work they do is diverse, but it all is aimed at helping others. The passion in their work is inspiring is impactful and it gives us hope this world is in good hands as we look to the future.
I admire the young leaders we feature and the great work these millennials are doing. They are disproving the myths about our young adults of today. I am thankful for their servitude and am encouraged that the future of our community looks so bright!
